Horses have always played a big role in our lives. We’ve always had horses and the kids don’t know life without them. Amber and Cody were riding in the saddle with mom and dad, long before they could walk.
At O’Donnell Quarter Horses, our focus at this point is on building our breeding program, standing our stallions to outside mares and marketing our quality colts. Throughout the year we offer our quality horses for sale. They’ll range from weanlings to well started 2 and 3 year olds. We usually have several buckskins and palominos.
My son, Cody, and I start our colts as 2 year olds. We also ride a few outside horses. Copyright © Mary O'Donnell Cody does most of his training in the summer months and during winter break. He is a full time student at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana, pursuing a degree in Equine Science. Starting colts and training horses is his means of putting himself through college. Cody is very gifted with his ability around horses. His quiet and gentle nature is reflected in the horses he rides and trains. Cody is also very involved with our breeding program and is always in pursuit of great mares. When he’s not working on the ranch, he competes seriously in the O-Mok-See arena. In July of 07, he placed 3rd overall in the Men’s 16 to 39 year old division at the National O-Mok-See Championship held in Vernal, Utah. Cody also piloted our race bred stallion, Toro The Blurr, taking home a saddle at our local barrel series this summer in Whitehall, MT.

Amber is a Surgical Technician at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital in Bozeman, Montana. Amber’s interest lies in the finishing phase of our horses. She enjoys barrel racing and training barrel horses. Amber has been competing on her great twelve year old horse “Sassy” that she has trained herself. In their career, they have won two saddles, money, and many other prizes. See her in our horses for sale page.

Mary is the backbone of our ranch. She’s the photographer, computer genius, barn goddess, world class mother and wife. She keeps me and the kids in order along with working outside the ranch. She recently started competing in the gaming events and has caught Cody’s O-Mok-See fever.

I handle the breeding end of the program along with starting and training some of the horses. I like to believe that I am the manager of this outfit, but with the kids and Mary becoming more involved with the operation, it seems like my ranking is falling to the hired hand that doesn't get paid too well.
We entered the breeding end of the business in 2000 with the purchase of our senior stallion – “Weavers Doc Ima Poco, aka “Rope” from the Weaver Production Sale. He was the high selling horse of that sale. It was an exciting day for our family to bring him home. In 2003, we purchased our second stallion, “Toro The Blurr.” He’s an impeccably speed bred horse and a great addition to our program. We really like to cross our cow bred mares on Toro and some of our speed bred mares on Rope. The strength of our program is quality not quantity. We consider ourselves to be blessed with the numbers and quality of horses that we own.
Because of our convenient location to I-90, we offer overnight boarding and camping for weary horses and their owners. Our rates are affordable and will vary if feed is supplied by you or us. Safe clean pens are available as well as large turnout areas.   We also offer horse clinics and events throughout the year. In 2008 we'll be hosting an O-Mok-See Scholarship Series and a John Mike Downey colt starting clinic.
We’ve never expected to become financially wealthy raising Quarter Horses; however, we do get a wealth of gratification raising quality horses. The friendships that we’ve made through our horses are priceless to us. Not only have we been blessed with the friendships that the horse business has provided, but the family affiliation it instills. O’Donnell Quarter Horses is a true family operation that has strengthened our family and has truly brought us closer together. We couldn’t be more thankful for how God has blessed us with this program and all the positive effects it has made in our lives.

If there is a heaven on earth, we believe our ranch is it. If you like to look at beautiful country and horses, then we invite you to stop by our ranch and inspect our program for yourself. If any of our services are of interest to you please call or e-mail us anytime. Thank you, for your time and interest in our program.
